Gate Styles

Gates are available in 3 different styles and construction.

Standard Gate

The Standard gate is built from 4 X 4s or 5 X 5s.  A steel plate is inserted at each corner in the post and attached to the gate rails with screws.  The steel plates add rigidity and keep the rails from sliding during normal use.  The gate also receives a support truss which runs diagonally for extra support.

Rivited Gate

The Rivited gate is built from 2" X 6" uprights and 1 1/2 X 5 1/2 rails. Rivets connect the uprights to the rails.  The rivet heads are then covered with a small plastic button head caps.

This style of gate is lighter than the Standard gate and does not require a support truss.  The biggest disadvantage is the use of the 1 1/2 X 5 1/2 rail may not match the rail used on your fence.

Welded Gate

A Welded gate can be fabricated from any rail style.  The ends are mitered and then "welded" together by heating the material and pressing the ends together. The resulting seam is strong and durable. A welded gate eliminates any movement of the joints and thus will not sag.  Gates are light weight and their strength is unmatched.

Tips for Ordering a Gate

  • Specify the gate style: Standard, Rivited, or Welded
  • Have exact measurements of the height and width
  • There is a standard deduction for the width opening of 2 1/2 inches
  • If you are ordering a Standard gate let us know which side the gate will hinge from.  This is necessary for placement of the truss
  • Custom gates require detailed drawings and a customer sign off when ordering.
